DOOM Developer: Our goal is to be the best-looking game at 1080p at 60fps

If there’s anything you can say about the developers of the upcoming DOOM revival, it’s that they aren’t lacking ambition. In Bethesda’s latest entry in their “22 Reasons to love DOOM” series, Lead Project Programmer Billy Khan made a bold statement regarding the team’s outlook on the game.

He said:

We want players to wonder how DOOM and idTech 6 games can be so visually stunning at 60 frames-per-second at 1080p on all platforms, when other titles cannot even achieve a similar look at 30 frames-per-second..Our goal is to be the best-looking game at 1080p at 60fps.

Granted, this statement applies mostly to the console crowd, as PC players can upgrade their rig to the point where it can surpass these numbers, but the claim is impressive none the less. Provided it turns out to be true.

Quick Take: Considering the game’s focus on competitive multiplayer, achieving 60 fps is almost a must at this point. It’s the 1080p part that sticks out the most. It’s widely known that games like Star Wars: Battlefront have to sacrifice a bit of visual fidelity to get the game to run smoothly on consoles, but if DOOM can pull this off, that alone will be impressive. It just remains to be seen if the game itself is any good.
